FOR A NEW YEAR 2013 OF STRUGGLE! ITALIAN MILITANT GIORGIO ROSSETTO ON AUTONOMY
In the past year 2012 Italy experienced a revival of social conflict, from the No Tav (high-speed railway) popular movement in Piedmont to the Ikea logistics’ workers pickets, from the secondary school occupations to the European social strike of November 14 and beyond. A new generation of youths, students, migrants, precarious workers and exploited rose against the corruption of representative politics and the oppression of the austerity measures.
Most of these struggles were joined, promoted or organized by the autonomous Italian network of social centers and students’ collectives; a movement that since the seventies has been opposing the capitalist establishment, the parties and trade union bureaucracies and their status quo.
In this video interview Giorgio Rossetto, long-standing militant and founder of the Askatasuna social center in Turin and the Popular Struggle No Tav Committee (and jailed earlier in the year and now on trial for his commitment to the anti high-speed railway cause) talks about autonomous attitude in politics, organization and social conflict, emphasizing its collective dimension and goals.
The Infoaut.org staff wishes you all a happy new year 2013 of struggle!
