Degage occupied student house evicted in Rome
The Digos along with some agents entered the building by climbing over the fence in order to then facilitate the eviction. At the time of the raid 18 comrades were inside; they were identified in the court yard of the occupied building and brought to the Porta Pia police station were they were indicted for “invasion of buildings”. In the mid-morning the streets around the building were still militarized and closed to traffic, while outside the police station many solidal people gathered, waiting for all the comrades inside to come out, as the latter were slowly released.
The eviction of today, decided by Rome’s prefect and by the city administration, is a clear attack against who keeps doing an active political work within the city of Rome. Once again in the name of legality, there is an effort to hindrance a project that in the last years played an active social and antagonist role inside the city. That is proved not only by the many initiatives that Degage, along with other Roman organizations, kept promoting in the metropolis, but also the big young composition that revolved around the occupied student house; a reality that moved in different frameworks of political intervention, from the right to housing until entering the university, posing some criticism against an increasingly decadent educational system.
At 5pm in the afternoon an assembly gathered at the 3 Serrande occupied classroom at the La Sapienza university, in order to quickly answer to this umpteenth attack upon social movements.
