Yoox: sexual harassment on the loaders. Enough is enough, it is a strike!
The riot police was particularly harsh in order, very likely, to scare the -mostly migrant- workers and to lead them silently back into the hell in which they had exhausted their lives until two days before – but that goal was not achieved! These most resolute loaders, supported by many comrades that ran to the Bologna interport, kept the struggling initiative on for the whole day with rigorousness and dignity until they deemed it sufficient and called it a day. They promised it on Thursday night in front of hundreds and hundreds of students attending to the Batti Il Tuo Tempo Festival at the Filippo Re gardens occupied by the Autonomous University Collective (CUA): from the concert stage they clearly stated that the times of oppression were over and that the day of Friday would have been the proof of their firmness and strength. Meanwhile the lawyer of the Bolognese court Marina Prosperi announced that charges had been filed for the treatments reserved to the Yoox’s loaders by the ganger.
The Infoaut staff along with the Lab Crash worked in these weeks on an inquiry about what happened until now at the Mr Job’s warehouse working for Yoox. In the next days accordingly with the developments of the struggle and in its interests, the remainder of the inquiry will be published, where the workers tell about how much they had to endure, and how much courage they had to find to raise in these days the fists against the slavers and the sexual abusers made in Yoox:
“I was hired three years ago with an apprenticeship contract. Shortly after I got through the trial period the sexual harassment by one of the supervisors of the Mr Job cooperative began. He approached me, being careful about not getting heard by the others and he whispered in my ear that he “knew that we Moroccans were all sluts, and 18-years old like me above all.” and with that filthy sneer of his he told me that I would better be nice and smile a bit more to him when bumping into him through the hallways… I was astonished, he could have had twice my years, if not more, and he was a boss of mine, how could he talk to me like that? I told him to not use that tone with me, to leave me be and let me do my work. The next day he made another supervisor call me, who told me that for some days there was no need of me at work… They called me back three weeks later, advicing me about being more polite.”
“You must chose between me, God and the pay, because I am giving you your pay and I am your God. Here Allah does not exist”. Such sentences are often addressed to me and other colleagues of mine by the supervisor, in relation to our being Muslim. Often convocations exclusively for us Moroccan girls happened, where we were blamed for breeding too many babies. From now on if we would have the intention of getting pregnant we would have to tell the company in advance, in order to let it decide about its feasibility; yet, in any case, they used to tell us: it is better for you to use contraceptives!”
“I was told: how beautiful are you! Let me see how you do belly dance”. Once he got close to me and touched me in an improper way kissing me on the neck. I stiffened up and asked him to not do that ever again. In front of my explicit refusals, his behaviour changed and his attentions turned into punishing manners. I was continuously changing working departments. I was charged with errors I knew I had not done. I was systematically denied vacations, that for three years I could never do, not even for a single day.”
