Proposals for the autumn from the NoTAV camp in Venaus
A full two days of discussion has just ended in Val Susa, at the call of the No Tav movement. From here we started, because there is a struggle here that can point to a viable way for all, in each other’s differences.
Many struggling territories, committees, student collectives and unions came together, converging on the analysis of how the constitutional referendum is an opportunity to raise dissent against the Renzi government.
From the discussion then emerged the clear desire not to shut oneself in the sterile defense of a constitution which is now emptied of all its substantive meaning, but trying to “generalize” hostility against Renzi and the Party of the Nation, with its austerity policies, its cronyst-mafia corollaries and its servility to the diktats of the Troika.
In this way a central importance was given to the opposition process that we have to build in the autumn, in order to make it not only a majority at the ballot box, but above all in the social empowerment of those who are blackmailed by the crisis and see the possibility of victory of the NO as an opportunity to take the floor.
We think of those who struggle for housing, in defense of the territories and against the great works, for basic rights, for the right to move beyond the boundaries imposed by Europe and within nation states and those who struggle simply for a better present and a better future.
We believe we must insert ourselves in this need for opposition that is emerging more and more clearly, though often far from our languages and our current paths of struggle.
In short before the referendum we ask everybody to build a social NO against the government, to be declined according to the specificities of their territories and areas of operation. Starting from there we must be able to revive the many struggles and re-appropriations and support youth empowerment and the anger of the peripheries.
The purpose is to collect what has been built in a great national demonstration in Rome, to be called the week before the referendum – one able to focus not so much on a political recomposition of the organizations, but rather to put our processes at the service of the many who, isolated and fearful, respond with cynicism and politics of delegation to the misery that is imposed on us.
Demonstrating as a moment of open forms yet to be decided within a common project; and which must be crossed even by those who can not or will not vote. It will also be only a step in which to open spaces in order to be able to send home Renzi after the referendum, whatever the cost.
A step that we must not approach with unjustified concerns, but that must be substantiated by a real process in our cities.
Therefore, it is necessary to meet in Rome in the last weekend of September at the La Sapienza University, in order to check the processes that we will start here and to organize ourselves altogether.
