YES MAYDAY | NOEXPO INTERNATIONAL WORKERS’ DAY IN MILAN
After seven years of crisis the precarious pride has become rage and indignation against the burgeoning unemployment and the growth of poverty imposed by BCE & IMF to most of the population with austerity policies, particularly in Italy, Greece and the rest of the Latin Europe. Social slaughter, plunder of wealth and common goods, the end of the public city are the bases upon which governments build their response to the economic crisis.
The whole urban environment is the heart of many overwhelming social tensions. It is dominated by profit-based logics, soil consumption, the speculative spiral and the showcase city formula, in which the territorial branding is everything and inhabitants needs count as nothing, which leads to environmental exploitation, militarization of life, as we see in Val Susa, attack against our city back streets.
Italy deeply suffers precariousness, exploitation, repression. Corresponds to our need of places for political activism and criticism their evacuation and closure.
As his european counterparts and predecessors did, Renzi has definitively declared war to the inhabitants of the territory. The first proof is the suspension of the workers’ day.
Expo 2015 will be inaugurated on May 1, regardless of those who are humiliated and exploited either with the logic of free jobs or with the degraded work and life conditions in which lay Italian workers.
The choices made by Expo and crisis governance are violent aggressions towards young people, migrants, workers and poor people, along with a toxic narrative that recycles embarrassing sponsors (CocaCola, Nestlé, McDonald’s) who legitimate with their presence dictatorial governments and rogue states such as Israel and its policies against the Palestinian people.
We reject this context.
We build a convergence of social blocks united by the will to stop suffering and fight back instead. For these reasons Attitude NoExpo network and the Italian social opposition launch this call on the day of the Expo 2015 opening. Since 2001, the First of May in Milan is MayDay Parade, the parade of the insurgent and queer precarious.
But May 1, 2015 will be even more: a joyful angry international demonstration through the centre of Milan, the showcase of Expo.
We will say once again that ExpoFaMale (expo is no good). We will strike and we won’t work for free.
We do not like Renzi and Trojka’s responses to the crisis.
We express solidarity with the workers of “La Scala” who are blackmailed for the Turandot and with the thousands of people who will be forced to work on May 1, 2015, against every rule and judgment.
We ask all students, precarious, unemployed, migrants, workers and activists of Europe and of the World to join us in a huge demonstration and we invite them to participate in the initiatives that we have planned in Milan from April 29 to May 3 with the following program:
APRIL 29: THE CITY OF MILAN AGAINST THE FASCIST MARCH
APRIL 30: NATIONAL STUDENTS DEMONSTRATION – STARTING OF INTERNATIONAL NO EXPO CAMPING.(Until May 3 with debates and workshops)
MAY 1: #NOEXPOMAYDAY
MAY 2: MOBILIZATIONS AGAINST EXPO
MAY 3: GENERAL ASSEMBLY for 6 months of mobilizations
FROM MAY 3: 6 months of meetings and conflict against and beyond the Expo paradigm
MAY 1 2015 #NOEXPOMAYDAY @MILAN
